Denver Browns’ offense erupted in the opening game of the July Fourth NABA Tournament with a 21-5 victory over the Brew City Naturals. Like a rocket’s red glare the Browns blasted out of the gate in the first inning scoring three runs on 5 hits and never turned back with Shane Hoss pitching six dominating innings giving up 2 earned runs with 4 K’s in his first appearance for the Browns this season.
The Browns and skipper Mike Onisko took the chance to work through some new arms in bullpen choosing to save Hoss’ arm for later rounds of the tourney. Featuring appearances from Ryan Westover, Matt Barker and Jordan Bruns. Ryan a big right hander came in to the ball game with the priority of tossing heat, strikes out 2 of the 5 batters he faced in his first appearance for the Browns this season.
DH Marcus Wood won the Denver Beer Company Player of the Game went 4-5 with a two singles, a double and a triple with 6 RBIs.
With Jordan Bruns still nursing a hamstring injury from the Father’s Day Game against the Royals, the Browns welcomed Connor Messinger on the infield and in the batters box. Messinger made a couple of excellent defensive plays at shortstop showing off great range and a strong arm.
The game eventually got away from Brew City as the Browns put up multiple runs in the 9th inning to set it out of reach.
We will be looking for these Browns’ bats to stay hot in the second half of the double header today. At 12:30 the Browns will take on the Denver Royals at Bear Creek High School in Lakewood. This will be a rematch from the very close Father’s Day matchup that resulted in the Denver Browns first loss of the season.
