Browns skip Hops 13-7 to take season series

by Denver Browns beat writer

Denver Browns won one going away Sunday afternoon versus the Denver Hops. It was a bit back and forth but ultimately the Browns lineup went out with a roar and then to the beer garden for some hops of their own. The game had a clear beginning middle and end and for the first 5 rounds the Browns came out on top leading 3 to nothing. The Denver Browns first got on the board in the 3rd after leadoff hitter Jordan Bruns (rhythms with runs) doubles and scores on a Jason Fobes RBI single. In the 4th inning the Browns Centerfielder David Newell gets it going with a lead off double to then be driven in on a Matt Barker RBI single and Barker brought in on a double off behemoth bat of 1B Nate Barnes.

Browns starter Steve Reilly (Denver Beer Co. Co-Player of the Game) was ahead of hitters all day and cruising when the defense of the Browns had some hiccups but the lefty would persevere in the 6th inning only yielding 3 runs on 3 errors and 2 past balls. The tie didn’t last long as Matthew Jerebker walked to start the bottom half and David Newell smacked one over the centerfield wall to make it 5-3 going into the 7th.

Denver defense sputters in the 7th allowing 3 runs to score on 2 more errors giving the Hops the lead headed to the bottom of the 8th 6-5.

Denver Browns Announcer Michael W. Archibald was named the Browns first “Blake Street Tavern Fan of the Game” winning a $30 gift card (courtesy of BST owner Chris Fuselier) for his commitment to the team throughout the season (thanks Mike!)

With Denver Browns motto being Champions never panic team Captain Trent Kutler leads off the 8th with a gapper putting him on 2nd and then trades places with Jason Fobes on his RBI double to tie the game. With tension building and the bases loaded, Matt Barker (Denver Beer Co. Co-Player of the Game) stays laser hot when he singles in Fobes and Jerebker to make the score 8-6 Browns. But the team wouldn’t stop there as Barnes then singles in Neumann and Chris Dennis also singles to set the stage. With the line up now turned over for Jordan Bruns makes a statement with a 3 run blast to deep left field. Next pitch is at Trent Kutlers head putting him at first with a hit by pitch. All in all the Browns plate eight and when this one going away 13-7. Lee Bustos throws 2 in relief to get the W and continue his dominance out the pen.
